The university has a distinguished cadre of academic staff who are at the forefront of international research in medical sciences and clinical medicine.

 Staff research activities, directed towards patient-centered outcomes, are supported by partnerships. Several world famous clinical and research institutions are closely associated with the Medical university.

National Pirogov Memorial Medical University is one of the largest in the country with a yearly intake of 330 undergraduate students on the MBBS programme and it has the widest range of intercalated BSc opportunities in the UKraine. The Medical university also offers postgraduate programmes and clinical training.

Milestones of development
 1921 – Pharmaceutical institute was opened (functioned till 1936).
 

1934 – Vinnytsya medical institute was founded on the basis of the Evening industrial medical institute. The first intake of students was conducted for Medico-Preventive and Paediatric faculties.

1960 – by the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme Body of USSR the institute was given the name of N.I. Pirogov.

1978 – the institute carried out the enrolment of the foreign citizens for training at the main faculties.
